Get ready for an exciting sneak peek! The Magic Kingdom's beloved Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is getting a stellar upgrade, and we've got an exclusive first look!
Today, Good Morning America unveiled the details of this highly anticipated refurbishment, offering a glimpse into the future of this iconic Magic Kingdom attraction.
The segment took us inside the ride, showcasing the hard work of Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar. We got to chat with Wyatt Winter, the Executive Producer, who highlighted the revamped opening sequence. It's a thrilling setup, preparing Space Rangers for their mission to battle Emperor Zurg. Winter revealed, "This new scene introduces our alien friends opening the airlock, and we get to see Buzz Lightyear himself join the fight!"
But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a little unexpected. Meet Buddy, the new support robot! Created by the talented teams at Disney and Pixar, Buddy ensures Space Rangers are ready for action with system checks and a boost of encouragement.
Visual Effects Designer, Shay, shared insights into the hyperspace tunnel sequence. "We're adding a whole new dimension to this scene with brand-new media. Buzz makes his grand entrance, and Zurg is up to no good, releasing space mines for us to blast!"
Tasha from Pixar explained the animation challenge of projecting onto a tunnel. "It's like animating on a flattened grid and then making it look normal when projected. A fun technical hurdle!"
The refurbishment also brings redesigned vehicles with a sleek Star Command look and real-time scoring screens. Say goodbye to fixed blasters; the new handheld versions offer improved aim with vibration and sound effects, making your laser shots more accurate and fun!
And this is the part most people miss... the interactive targets! Now, when you hit a target, it reacts and lights up, giving you instant feedback and a more immersive gaming experience.
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin closed its doors in August 2025, but fear not! It's set to reopen in the spring of 2026, although Disney hasn't revealed an exact date yet.
